With 17 championships to their name, the Boston Celtics have been as dominant as any franchise in the NBA.
While their success on the hardwood is certainly well-known to those in the basketball community, it’s the Celtics utilization of social media in sports that maybe isn’t getting the recognition it deserves.
The Celtics boast over 800,000 followers on Twitter and close to 7 million facebook fans.
And for the first time this past Friday, the Celtics social media and digital team — led by Senior Director of Interactive Media, Peter Stringer — unveiled a new social media in sports initiative: fans’ tweets appearing on the 360 degree ring around TD Garden.
Tweets that included the hashtag #CelticsTalk were among those on display. It’s just another way of engaging with the loyal Boston fanbase and tying in fans to the conversation through social media.
