No need to worry about forgetting your MLB season ticket at home anymore.
Together, MLB and Apple recently combined forces, creating the latest development in sports technology: Apple’s new Passbook app.
With the app, fans can purchase their ticket online, download it, and then it will be stored in their passbook. Arrive at the stadium and the iPhone’s GPS location will automatically pull the ticket up to the screen. Easy enough, right?
Toward the end of the regular season, Major League Baseball rolled out the new app to just four teams; 12 percent of single-game tickets purchased over the last two weeks of the year were stored to passbook.
“We were really pleased, obviously surprised given those parameters, ”Matthew Gould, Vice President of Communication for MLB Advance Media told Mashable.com, regarding the new sports technology. “It made it clear that fans were ready for this kind of technology and this delivery of tickets.”
With smartphones, fans can utilize the user-friendly option of presenting an e-ticket as they enter their favorite team’s ballpark. Just make sure you don’t forget your phone at home.
