As technology continues to expand into the sports world and communications departments brainstorm to create inovative ways of engaging their fanbases, the Minnesota Twins are at the forefront of the next latest and greatest sports app.
Together, the Twins and MLB Advanced Media have launched the “At the Plate” sports mobile app, which can be utilized by Twins fans at Target Field.
According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, the Minneapolis-based marketing agency, Sportsdigita, developed “At the Plate,” making it the first MLB mobile sports app of its kind.

The sports app allows fans to predict which events will occur on the field when the Twins are batting. Will a Twins player hit a grand slam? Will someone steal a base? Fans are then awarded points for correctly picking the events that occurred during each inning. The seating section that amasses the most points is the winner. Every fan holding a valid game ticket in the winning section will be eligible for a prize.
“This new game is really a way for fans of all interest levels to interact with the baseball game at a whole new level,”John Avenson, the Twins’ vice president of technology, said in a statement. “Rather than detract from the game at hand, it actually enhances it and engages fans in a way that has never been done before.”
Twins fans can access the “At the Plate” mobile game through the MLB.com sports app, “At the Ballpark.”
