The 2012 NHL Lockout began at 11:59 p.m. on September 15, and since then, there’s been minimal progress made at the bargaining table between the team owners and the NHL Players Association.
On October 4, the NHL postponed the start of the regular season, which was supposed to start on October 11.
In all, 82 scheduled games through October 24 were cancelled due to the work stoppage, and on Friday, the league announced the further cancellation of games until November 1.
Kevin Allen of the USA Today does a nice job of laying out where the negotiations are currently at — from an unbiased perspective — in this article.

NHLers Display Opinions With 2012 NHL Lockout
If Gary Bettman and the owners sincerely want to play so badly, they can easily lift the Lockout and continue to bargain. We CAN be playing.

Bettman’s characterization of our proposal is false. We achieve 50% in every option presented.Over $1B/5yrs in concessions from #theplayers

Gary mischaracterizes our offer! 50/50 AND honor existing contracts. How is that not the same language? NHL offer Tues was PR move #fanslose

A contract is a signed document both owner and player agree on?? And now u don’t want to honor it??

For people hating on the players saying take 50/50 it’s fair..we offered that, as long as current contracts are honored. Fair. Gary says no

Hey we could be playing hockey under the old CBA and continue to negotiate a new one? It’s a LOCKOUT not a strike! #theplayers
