The state of Florida is leading the college football world as of late with its latest inovations in social media in sports.
Two weeks ago, the Florida State football program implanted its twitter handle (@FSU_Football) onto the field in Tallahassee, Fla.
Just this past weekend, Central Florida followed suit as it stenciled in @UFC_Football into the visitors’ endzone at Bright House Networks Stadium.
With the growth of social media in sports, and specifically twitter, the two moves are engaging methods to connect with thousands of fans at one time. Who will be the next FBS school to add a twitter handle to its sideline?
“Our facilities crew loves this stuff,” says Brian Ormiston, UCF’s associate director of athletic communications, to ESPN Playbook. “The UCF Twitter handle idea came about as a team effort between our external operations staff at UCF along with the facilities office.”
