Ray Lewis Officially Joins ESPN as NFL Analyst

imgresJust two months after retiring from football, Ray Lewis is back. Except this time, he’s trading in the pads for the suit. On Wednesday, ESPN officially announced that Lewis would join the network as an NFL analyst. The move had been rumored ever since Lewis capped off his career with a Super Bowl win last month against the San Francisco 49ers.

Lewis will appear on Monday Night Countdown, Sunday NFL Countdown and SportsCenter, as well as contributing to ESPN’s annual Super Bowl coverage. During the 2013 season, Lewis will travel to the site of each week’s Monday Night Football matchup for both pre-game and post-game coverage and work alongside Stuart Scott, Steve Young and Trent Dilfer. Lewis and Dilfer were teammates on the Ravens’ first championship team in 2000.

“Ray is a tremendous addition to our NFL roster and he will have an immediate impact on our coverage,” said John Wildhack, ESPN executive vice president, production. “One of the most accomplished players in NFL history, fans will be drawn to his knowledge, experience and, of course, the passion he always exudes for the game.”

In addition, Lewis will make weekly appearances on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike in the Morning. He will also have the opportunity to host specials that are similar to Jon Gruden’s QB Series. Lewis is expected to officially start at ESPN on August 1.

Lewis has past experience on air at ESPN, making a guest appearance on NFL Live last summer. Lewis also had a similar role on Sunday NFL Countdown at Super Bowl XLII in 2007.

I wonder what kind of role they will use him in. I would love for him to be the defensive equivalent to Jaws and do some sort of video/game plan breakdown stuff. But he might be too valuable to be in that role.

Can I simply just say what a comfort to uncover a person that genuinely knows
what they’re talking about over the internet. You certainly understand how to bring a problem to light and make
it important. More and more people have to read this and understand this side of your story.
I can’t believe you’re not more popular given that you most certainly possess the gift.
