The One Piece of Advice You Need To Reach Your Full Potential in 2014

Sports and athletes are a great source of inspiration for all of us. In this article I will share some powerful and very effective advice I learned from sports. This advice will help you to reach your full potential in 2014. I have been living it for almost 10 years and it never fails.

Powerful Advice From Athletes: Live It And Reach Your Full Potential in 2014

full potentialMy friends know how passionate I am for sports. In the same way that I have learned so many different disciplines, I just feel the emotion behind each one of them. Running, Football, Surf, Skateboarding, Mountain Biking. You name it, I have probably tried it.

One of my great passions is Martial Arts, which I have practiced for more than a decade. In the dojang I have learned one of the best pieces of advice I could receive. Later, I saw it in action through several top athletes, in a variety of disciplines.

“You have only this chance of doing it right, so don’t waste it.”

My Taekwondo coach used to say that. If we had to perform a difficult exercise ten times, our first thought was “by the 10th time I maybe can do it right.” Or “I will put less effort at the beginning because I am too tired to do it 10 times.”

To take that out of our heads, the coach would continue with this:

“The fact that you can perform it 10 times doesn’t mean that you have 10 times to try. You have 10 times to do it right. Not nine, not eleven. Use these 10 opportunities to give all you have, to make it perfect, to be the best you can be. I assure you will leave here today feeling great, not only because you performed with full potential, but also because you truly learned how to do it, not matter the difficulty you face.”

And he was so right. The advice works perfect, for all we face in life.

How Do You Apply This Powerful Advice in Other Aspects of Life?

I started to approach everything with the same mindset:

“I have this moment to do it right, to give the best of me, and once this moment is gone, I will have lost the opportunity.”

Family, friends, work. It applies in all aspects of our lives.

At the beginning it can be scary, and you will feel the pressure. But you get used to the feeling and soon it is gone. The attitude stays – and this is the most important thing.

Maybe you have a difficult task at work and you are procrastinating. Or you are too busy to offer attention to a friend that needs you today. Maybe it’s too cold to leave your house this morning and go running.

If you find yourself making excuses, use the advice. And then use it again. And again.

Once you know the feeling of accomplishment, excellent work delivered, your friend’s smile or a 10k run completed in a cold morning you realize every single moment is worth the effort.

You know you can do it, you know the feeling of victory because this is now a part of your life, every day.

“It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn’t.”

Martina Navratilova, one of the greatest tennis players and coaches of all time, applied the same mindset on her career.

I chose this quote to open one of the chapters of my book, because I believe this advice is really powerful and can change how we approach life. It is a reminder that life is much more beautiful when we live it in full potential.
