Citi Makes Moves To Win Over Boston

Citi hosts the Frozen Fenway 2014This January, Fenway Park will once again become ice laden for fans and sports teams alike.  “Frozen Fenway” is a two-week series of ice skating events that will include four college hockey games.  A difference for this year is visitors will see the addition of Citi as the event’s title sponsor.

Frozen Fenway began back in 2010 with the Boston Bruins battling the Philadelphia Flyers. Hockey East also made its Fenway debut in 2010 when Boston University topped Boston College, 3-2.

Citi Frozen Fenway 2014

In an effort to reward local card members and attract new ones, Citi’s title sponsorship comes with benefits.  Citi card holders will be able to access a ticket presale for Citi Frozen Fenway 2014.   Members of the program will also enjoy special experiences for families and hockey fans ranging from youth clinics to exclusive skate times on Fenway Park ice.  Jennifer Breithaupt – Citi’s senior vice president of entertainment marketing – had this to say:

“We’re always looking for new ways to give our customers special access in sports, and Frozen Fenway is creating new history at this iconic venue,”

Not only do Citi Card holders get access to the pre-sale of tickets, but Boston Red Sox season ticket holders get the same privileges as well.

The four college hockey games are as follows:

JANUARY 4, 2014

  • 4:00 p.m. – Merrimack College vs. Providence College
  • 7:30 p.m. – Notre Dame vs. Boston College

JANUARY 11, 2014

  • 3:00 p.m. – UMass Lowell vs. Northeastern University
  • 6:30 p.m. – Maine vs. Boston University

Citi Baseball Clinic

Citi has also partnered with the Red Sox David Ortiz to set up a youth baseball clinic.  The clinic is set to take place at Melrose High School on September 22.  Citi said its card holders have the opportunity to purchase registration to the David Ortiz Youth Baseball Clinic for boys and girls, grades 1 to 8.

It appears that Citi is making a strong effort to reward its customers and give back to the Boston community.  Do you think these sponsorships are beneficial to Citi?
