Yahoo Named Founding Partner at Levi’s Stadium

levis_stadium_rendering.0_standard_352.0Technology is a major component of the Bay Area region in Northern California, so it is only fitting that the San Francisco 49ers have partnered with Yahoo in a new deal with the team’s new stadium in the Silicon Valley. The agreement will allow fans to upload photos to Flickr, owned by Yahoo, during the game as well as allowing fans to visit the Yahoo Fantasy Football lounge in the stadium’s luxurious suite tower.

Yahoo is just the latest Silicon Valley company to join in with the new business opportunities at the 49ers stadium, as Violin Memory and Brocade are also “founding partner” sponsors of the stadium. Google, Apple, as well as other Silicon Valley companies are helping the newest NFL Stadium which will be known as Levi’s Stadium, host the 50th Super Bowl in 2016.

While the financial terms of the 10-year deal were not disclosed, it was revealed that Yahoo will be “the exclusive online sports content, social networking and photo and video sharing partner” at the 49ers new stadium.

“We know nowadays that fans are incredibly passionate about their favorite team but heavily invested in everything that’s going on throughout the league,” said Yahoo’s senior vice president of brand creative, Bob Stohrer, noting the 49ers field would still be visible from the lounge. “They want to stay connected to what’s happening in fantasy while they’re enjoying their home team’s game.”

The move is a strategic choice for Yahoo. While most fans would think about posting photos to social media websites such as Facebook or Instagram first, Stohrer hopes that the incentive for fans of their photos being shown on the 190-foot wide scoreboard will encourage them to use Flickr more frequently.
