Training For A Triathlon – The Beginner’s Guide

triathlon

People get into sports for several reasons. Some do it to improve their health status. Some do it just for fun. And some do it as their own form of therapy.

Being active in sports can provide you a lot of benefits not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. While it’s easy to decide that you want to join a sport one day, it’s necessary that you are prepared before joining one. Whether you want to join a sport for physical improvement or you want to join the fun of the competition, remember to undergo all training possible.

Among the different sports today, signing up for a triathlon is probably one of the most challenging things, as it involves 3 different sports. This is also the reason why a lot of people are enticed to join this kind of competition. If you would like to compete in this kind of sport, you need to prepare by joining programs that will help you improve your running, biking and swimming skills. Training for a triathlon is necessary if you want to have enough stamina to actually finish the race.

Training for A Triathlon

Before looking for a trainer or joining a triathlon program, do your own preparations first. Swimming for 2.4 miles or running for 26 miles could be too much for you to start out, especially if you don’t have practice. So practice swimming by yards first or run for about 5 miles first. This could be a warm up for you.

If you think you’ve had enough training, try out your skills by joining local competitions. This will give you a chance to experience how the competition would actually feel. You’ll also get the chance to compete with other trained triathletes and see how you stack up against them.

Equipment

An underrated and important part of a triathlon is having the proper gear for running, biking and swimming.

First off, your running shoes should be of high quality. Your shoes do have an effect on how you run and how comfortable it is for you. So don’t settle on something cheap that could cause harm to you. Your bike does not necessarily have to be the most expensive one out there; if you already have one, you can start training on it. Then eventually upgrade for better performance. You can also invest in your swimming gear too.

Intrinsic Skill

And, more importantly, beginners need to practice self-confidence. But this doesn’t necessarily mean pushing yourself too hard. Start with baby steps and start climbing the ladder. Eventually, you’ll improve your skills along the way and, before you know it, you’re all ready for the national competition.
