Just how important is NFL home field advantage in 2012? The folks over at SportsData, LLC created a visual graphic displaying the statistics from 2002-11 as the current season is just underway.

Which teams have been utterly atrocious on the road? Who has been the surprising franchise to win consistently on its home turf?

Below are some noteworthy facts from the visual display, courtesy of SportsData.

  • The New England Patriots have posted the most road victories (56) in the last decade; the franchise is just 1 of 8 teams with a winning record on the road during that same time.
  • AFC teams have fared slightly better at home (.587) versus NFC home teams (.557).
  • From 2002-2011, the Detroit Lions posted the fewest road wins (15), 6 fewer than the next closest team.
  • Only 1 team in the past decade — the New York Giants — has won more road games (46) than at home (42).
