Job Description

The WRITER INTERN will contribute to the daily article production on SportsNetworker.com.  The responsibilities of your role will include market research, content writing, content editing, support marketing and report creation. Your role will be a critical part of our success and you’ll be clearly instructed on best practices and allowed to utilize your own research and creative writing skills. Training is our primary objective as employers. Above all, you’ll be expected to have fun, and communicate openly with our team to ensure your success.

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements

Since this is an Internship, and a Training Program as well, we don’t expect you to meet all of these Qualifications, Skills and Requirements.  Otherwise, you’d probably be a candidate for a salaried position with our company. However, the more of these qualifications you do have, the more likely your are to step right in and excel. BUT, fear not. We provide extensive and timely training for each task you will carry out. That’s the point after all. This is a training program as much as it is an internship. Sports Networker is looking for a passionate WRITER INTERN with online publishing experience, strong communication and writing skills. We need someone with demonstrated experience working with WordPress websites and the ability to meet daily publishing deadlines.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Command of English Language: Speak, Read and Write English Very Well
  2. Excellent General Computer Skills (Browsing, Social Networking, Searching, Typing Skills, etc.)
  3. Experience with Document Building: Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Databases, Google Docs, etc.
  4. Experience working with WordPress CMS
    • Basic Page-Layout Skills
  5. Excellent Communication and Writing Skills
    • No copy/paste, you MUST write original content in this role
    • Creative writing skills, a proven passion for blogging
    • Demonstrated Style and Personality
  6. Excellent and Fast Typer of at least 60 wpm – Transcriptions Required

  1. You should be a self starter, able to work independently and meet deadlines

The CONTENT WRITER INTERN role includes but is not limited to the following:

  1. Market Research
    • Documenting The Base of our Target Market to serve as the working basis of what to we will produce content around, where to distribute it and who to partner with. This is the act of conducting market research to document products, places, questions, answers, problems, solutions and people.

      • The KnowledgeBase
        • Questions and Answers: FAQ
        • Problems and Solutions – The Roadmap

        • People: Bloggers, Advocates, Partners, Affiliates and Advertisers
  2. Writing Content
    • Write Articles of varying length, from 500 – 5,000 words
    • Writing Standard Pages
    • Writing First Pillar Articles
    • Writing News Syndication Articles – Wire Briefs
    • Writing News Syndication Articles – Wire Digest
    • Writing List Articles
    • Writing Review Articles
    • Writing Feature Articles
    • Writing Question and Answers Articles
    • Writing Problem and Solutions Articles
    • Writing Tactic and Result Articles
  3. Editing Content
    • Provide error free, edited and proofread copy
    • Fleshing Rich Media
    • Styling and Formatting for Humans and Search Engines
    • Optimizing for primary and secondary keywords
  4. Support Marketing
    • Writing and Documenting Post Abstracts
    • Link Building Activities – Blog Comments, Forum Comments, Social Media Interactions
    • Writing Snippets, Abstracts, Updates and other pieces of content
    • Comment Moderation both on Site and on Social Channels
    • Finding, building and nurturing of relationships with potential sponsors, affiliates, advocates and online influencers
  5. Report Creation
    • Compiling short reports around growing KnowledgeBase and content
    • Transcription of Rich Media and formatting of reports based on those transcriptions.

Additional Information

THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP that requires a passion for the sports industry, tireless hustle, attention to details and the ability to meet all deadlines. We require a minimum commitment of 20-25 hours per week. The duration of the internship is  for 3 months (unpaid). Potential for an additional 3 month (paid) job extension that will be discussed with short-listed candidates. If you are a student looking for relevant internship experience as a part of your college degree, we will work with you and your college program to ensure that you receive proper credit.
