The 3 Best NBA Prospects On The Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas Jayhawks

As is the case with most college basketball teams early on this season, the Kansas Jayhawks have certainly had its ups and downs. There is a reason the Jayhawks were ranked so high in the preseason, though, and a reason most of the experts still believe Kansas will be contenders come March.

That reason is Bill Self and his recruiting prowess.

Self has once again built himself a top recruiting class in the nation, and in this day and age of college basketball where most of the players are “one-and-done,” finding freshman who can make an impact right away is crucial to add to seasoned veterans.

Kansas has done a little bit of both, and I have outlined the three best NBA prospects currently on the Jayhawk roster. Enjoy!

These Kansas Jayhawks Will Fly At The Next Level

#1 –Joel Embiid

When figuring out any good bet in sports, it is helpful to visit Betonline.ag/sportsbook and Topbet.eu. Yet, for all the ways in which you might think that the sports books might have valued Andrew Wiggins as Kansas’ top NBA prospect at the beginning of the season, it might turn out to be that Embiid is the man.

Kansas coach Bill Self had this to say about Embiid:

“Joel could go anywhere this year from (No. 1 to No. 5) probably, I would say.  It would be hard for a staff member or myself to say, ‘Hey it’s best for you to come back.’ It’s really probably best for us if he comes back. “He is a young man who is very, very young, not just in basketball … he is trying to figure it all out. I talked to him the other day. He said, ‘Well, shouldn’t I learn how to drive a car first?’ He can get a nice car, but he probably can get somebody to drive him so he doesn’t have to worry about that…. I’d say everybody on the outside would say he’s probably definitely going to go because everybody who could go that high goes, but the reality of it is, I don’t feel that way at all. I feel he should do what is best for he and his life.”

Embiid has been sensation as a center. Kansas didn’t expect to find a replacement to Jeff Withey this quickly, but they have done so and the results that have been undoubtably positive. This is the biggest reason – literally, at the center position – the Jayhawks can still make a run in March. It’s also clear that Self values Embiid’s talents and can see how substantial they already are, even though he’s only a freshman.

#2 –Andrew Wiggins

For those who value online betting at BetOnline.ag, this is a player who has not lived up to preseason expectations, but I for one am someone who says that preseason expectations were very unreasonable for the most hyped recruit on the market.

Wiggins was supposed to be the next coming of Michael Jordan, from the way he was touted by offseason publications and a lot of college basketball personalities. He is finding his way through the season, and he’ll be a much better player at season’s end. His upside is still unmistakable, and even though he’s not being relentlessly productive the way Kansas might have hoped, he still does a few things during a game that make you realize how special he can in fact be.

#3 –Perry Ellis

This is the “quiet good” player on the Kansas roster. Wiggins was getting all the attention at the beginning of the season and Embiid has shot up the draft boards, but all the while Ellis has simply gone about his job and been one of the best scorers in the Big 12 Conference. He is a dependable source of production for the Jayhawks on a nightly basis. There is going to be a place for Ellis in the NBA as long as he continues on his present trajectory.

Don’t Forget These Names For June And Beyond

Like most other years, the Kansas Jayhawks are in the 2014 college basketball season to contend for a national title. The three prospects listed above will not only have a chance to do that this year, but also get their shot to excel in the NBA when they are drafted. Be sure to keep out a watchful eye for these ballers when the draft comes in June and beyond.
