What Does Hockey Legend Bernie Nicholls Do During An NHL Lockout?

If you are like me, a Canadian kid who grew up dreaming of winning the Stanley Cup, you have envisioned what you would do if you had your 1 day with the most prized trophy in sports.

After an astounding playing career, NHL Legend – Bernie Nicholls finally had his day when he won the Stanley Cup as a member of the LA Kings coaching staff last season.  Bernie took the Cup back to his hometown of Haliburton, Ontario, Canada where he then proceeded to take it up a tree in his hunting gear for a photo opportunity.

Now, this type of experience is one that has to be earn.  There is no other way to get your hands on the Stanley Cup for a day aside from being involved with a championship team.  But, for the average sports fan, there is a new way to create your own sports experience of a lifetime.

Get Real Creates Unforgettable Sports Experiences

With the NHL locked out (and no end in site), Bernie has ventured into the business of providing hockey fans with unique experiences. GetRealHockeyExperiences.com offers up a number of experiences that any sports fan would love this Christmas including the opportunity to go fishing with Bernie & friends in the Catalina Islands or hunting bears with a group of current and former NHL stars.

There are also other experiences available for purchase on the site including a trip to Russia where fans will get to watch a live KHL game and meet some of the top Russian hockey players in the world.

Bernie Nicholls Talks Hockey, Stanley Cup Celebrations and Get Real Hockey Experiences

It is tough to dispute that Bernie Nicholls is one of the greatest scorers in NHL history.  After all, he is one of only 8 players to surpass the 70 goal mark in a season and one of only 5 players to score more than 150 points in a season.  It was a thrill to speak with someone that I grew up watching play hockey and after speaking with him via Skype, I can see he still has a passion for the game and truly enjoys sharing that passion with other hockey fans.

During the Skype video chat with Bernie, we chatted about:

  • His favorite memories of playing in the NHL and how he was able to score 70 goals in a season (without playing on Wayne Gretzky’s line)
  • How he ended up landing his current role as a Coaching Consultant with the LA Kings
  • What he did during his day with the Stanley Cup that made the keeper of the Cup a bit nervous
  • Bernie also discusses all of the unique experiences available to fan through GetRealHockeyExperiences.com (including ones for Football and Basketball fans as well)

If you are looking for a unique gift this Christmas for the “tough to buy for” sports fan on your list, make sure to check out GetRealHockeyExperiences.com.  And, if you are not a hockey fan, don’t worry, they also have experiences for the Football fans out there including a 2013 Pro Bowl Experience!

    Trevor,

A welcome respite from all the labor dispute talk. I loved seeing the joy on both your faces throughout the interview and enjoyed Bernie’s story about how he got the job with the Kings and about his role, as you said, of “good cop.”

Having read this I believed it was extremely
enlightening. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this article together.

I once again find myself personally spending a significant amount of time both reading and commenting.

But so what, it was still worth it!
