NHL Lockout Hurting Key Sponsors During Holidays

The NHL Lockout has been hurting the players, coaches, front office, league personal and much more. Also hurting are some of the leagues’ key sponsors who are struggling this holiday season.

Holiday sales are down, and this never-ending lockout has continued to hurt all parties involved. And with the recent announcement of  game cancelation through the remainder of the calendar year, it doesn’t appear that a deal is close to being in place.

“Molson Coors was one of the most prominent sponsors to lament the lockout, with its CEO declaring that there will be reparations for the damage done to the brewer’s sales sans hockey this year,” according to this Yahoo! Sports article.

“Our NHL business is off substantially,” said Mitchell Modell, CEO of the 150-store sporting goods chain which bears his family name. “The dollars are small relatively, but the percentages are big. Thank God for the NBA, because it came back strong last year [after that league’s lockout] and they are more than offsetting our NHL sales.”

    Who cares!

The 1992 NHL strike, postponed 30 games of the 1991–92 season

The 1994–95 NHL lockout, cancelled many of the games of the 1994–95 season and shortened the regular season to 48 games per team with no inter-conference games

The 2004–05 NHL lockout, cancelled all of the games of the 2004–05 season

The ongoing 2012–present NHL lockout, which began on September 15, 2012, now day 88! Nice way to keep fans, I’m done as a life-long Blackhawk fan going back to the Bobby Hull -Stan Mikita era.
Good bye greedy players and owners who really don’t give a hoot about the fans!
